I. What is a PDC Bit?

A PDC (Polycrystalline Diamond Compact) bit is made by setting or sintering PDC cutters on a bit body. It is mainly used for drilling in soft to medium-hard formations. The cutting elements achieve efficient rock breaking through polycrystalline diamond composite. PDC bits break formations by shearing, scraping, and ploughing, showing good adaptability to soft formations, plastic formations, hard interlayers, and extremely hard formations. By achieving efficient cutting, PDC bits can effectively improve ROP and shorten drilling cycles.

II. How to Select a PDC Bit?

Accurate selection based on the three-dimensional matching of "formation - condition - requirement" can prevent 90% of bit wear.

Look at Formation: Match cutters and structure. Soft/plastic formations use large cutters with low-density layout; medium-hard/abrasive formations use high-wear-resistant cutters and impact-resistant structure; complex interbedded formations use customized design with mixed cutter layout and multi-stage cutting.

Look at Conditions: Adapt to WOB, RPM, and well structure. Vertical/shallow wells use standard hydraulics; horizontal/deep wells use reinforced gauge design and large flow channels.

Look at Requirements: Balance efficiency and cost. Batch drilling chooses standard general-purpose bits; special projects choose customized solutions.
